Festival of Trees
Saskatoon’s own Festival of Trees features dozens of highly decorated trees on display for your enjoyment and wonder. It’s all going down at the Western Development Museum starting on November 22. There are only a few select days during which you can enjoy the dazzlingly displayed trees, including November 23, 24, and the 25- December 1. As you check out the trees, you’ll get a chance to bid on them to take them home. It definitely beats cutting down and decorating your own tree! Each night be sure to check out the adjacent Gingerbread Lane, which features marvelous gingerbread displays like houses or statues, plus live entertainment from the nearby stage.
Christmas with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra
Music lovers will want to bookmark Saturday, December 7 at 7:30 PM. This is when the Sid Buckwold Theatre is hosting the SSO, who have prepared a holiday celebration hosted by special guests. Join the famous Saskatoon jazz trumpeter Dean McNeil and singer-songwriter Elly Thorn as they assist the orchestra and performing classic holiday songs and even some carols transformed into orchestra form. There’s never been a better time to enjoy the musical artistry of Saskatoon’s native musicians. Check it out if the cold weather and short days are getting you down.
Fireside Singers Christmas Concert
Of course, the Christmas holiday isn’t complete without some excellent choir music. Join Saskatoon’s own 100+ voice choir at their Concert, which runs on December 21 and 22nd at 7:30 PM. You can get tickets to attend at the TCU Place, and be sure to purchase them soon as space is limited. The choir will perform a rendition of many classic Christmas carols that are sure to lighten your spirits and keep you warm even if the temperature outside does its best to chill you!
Jazz Singer YuleFest
On December 7, stop by The Bassment, Saskatoon’s local jazz club pub. Not only can you enjoy some comforting eats and some of the best brews in town, but you can see eight outstanding vocalists sing their own renditions of the best Christmas songs of the season. They’ll be accompanied by seasoned jazz performers. Local names include Sylvia Bender, Grant Currie, Bruce Garman, Robyn Knight, and much more. The show starts at 8 o’clock sharp so don’t be late. Even better, arrive early and get one of the best seats in the house near the dimly lit stage.
BHP Enchanted Forest
The BHP Enchanted Forest returns for its 21st outing, hosted by the Saskatoon Zoo Foundation and City Hospital Foundation. Head out to the Forestry Farm Park outside Saskatoon and immerse yourself in a winter wonderland with a forest straight out of a Christmastime fairytale. As one of the longest-running Christmas light shows in Canada, you’re sure to be wowed by the magical lights typically experienced by over 80,000 people each year. The theme for this year’s forest decorations is “Starry Nights”, featuring a dreamy decorative composition including a new light display specifically made for this year’s event.
VIP Santa Event at Centre Mall
Families will want to give their kids a chance to talk to St. Nick and deliver their Christmas list in person! What better opportunity to do that than when the man in red himself shows up at The Centre Mall on Wednesday, November 28 from 5 PM to 8 PM. You can preregister a time for your child by checking out the website; this ensures that your son or daughter will get designated time to sit on Santa’s lap. Best of all, each kid gets a special gift from Santa. This is a super popular event, so register early to make sure you get a spot!
Nutrien Wintershines Festival
This is easily the most glorious snow park in Saskatoon. It features an inflatable igloo with fun activities contained within, a candy cane scavenger hunt, ice sculptures, and even more all held within a perimeter of twinkling lights. There’s even a “Warm the Heart” Soup Cook-off held during the festivities! It’s an excellent festival to attend while spending the day with your friends or family, and even better as an excuse to get out of the house without spending too much time in the cold!
